Open to every parent or legal guardian of an Ed Smith student, the Ed Smith Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a not-for-profit organization that works to achieve a quality and equitable education for our children. It serves as a forum for communication, support, and cooperation among families, faculty, administration, staff, and the community. PTO activities include:
- Hosting and supporting community-building events, including the Inclusive Talent Showcase and the Great Ed Smith Carnival
- Fundraising to help cover field trip costs, special events at the school, supporting the performing and visual arts, and providing a free book of choice to every student at Book Fairs
- Sharing the concerns and opinions of members with school staff and administration
- Advocating on the school’s behalf with the Syracuse City School District and other local organizations
The PTO meets at least once monthly during the school year. Each member has voting rights on officer elections and larger expenditures.
